4 Months

It’s been quite a 4th month for Lil’ Miss Ruby – but she’s been a real trooper! Poor thing got sick for the first time and had to deal with a pretty nasty respiratory virus. We’re pretty confident there’s nothing sadder than a baby with a mask over her face breathing in medicine from an inhaler, but she was so brave and strong, and is now back to being amazingly cute (and healthy) full-time. :)

In addition to icky sickness, Ruby has also been experiencing the joys of teething! We have no idea when the 1st pearly whites will make their grand appearance, but this kid drools like a faucet and will chomp down on anything within reaching distance! Let’s all send some requests to the Tooth Fairy for Ruby, and hope that she cuts a few teeth sooner than later to end the discomfort! In the meantime, Ruby has made a new friend – Sophie la Giraffe! Sophie is an adorable French giraffe made of rubber that she can chew on to her hearts’ content. We rookie parents had no idea about the Sophie phenomenon whatsoever until just recently. Apparently, Sophie’s big among teething babies everywhere around the world – (since 1961 even!), and she’s cute too! Ruby really seems to love her!

Also big in month #4 is all the action this girl is up to! Rolling over back to front – or front to back – she’s got it down now, and this girl can move! This picture was taken the day she finally realized we had a little mirror in her crib. It was too perfect, I had snuck in to check on her after a nap one day. Lots of happy chatter and sounds, and then silence! I looked in and she was just staring at herself in the mirror! She was so entranced that I had time to run and get the camera and snap pics before she moved!

So on to some monthly stats …

Ruby’s current stats (as of her 4-month well baby appointment):
14 lbs. even and 25.5 in. long
(This puts her at the 60th percentile, which is slightly above average)

Current likes:
Walking around with Daddy in the Baby Bjorn
Sophie la Girafe :)
Going to MyGym
Singing “Zoom Zoom” and “Itsy Bitsy Spider”

Current dislikes:
Being in the car seat (still)
Getting out of the bath tub

Notable events:
Starting Mommy & Me classes with other babies born Oct/Nov 2010
Celebrating Halmoni’s birthday at the Korean Restaurant
First time getting sick (boo!)

So that’s a wrap on our 4 month recap. With Ruby & Mommy both getting sick – we missed out on some photo ops and fun things to report – but lots of big things are coming up in Month 5, which starts this Saturday! Can’t believe how quickly it’s all happening!

Fun in the LBC

FINALLY! Some really great weather arrived, so Ed & I decided to get out and show Ruby a few of Mommy and Daddy’s old stomping grounds. We ended the 2-hour stroll at the Long Beach Museum of Art where we got married, so we decided to tell Ruby the story … and take a few pics!

After checking out the museum, we decided to go down near the water and let Ruby chill on the grass for the first time … it was such a pretty day!

We even had time to take a family portrait:

But as we all know, all good things must come to an end. When we reached this point, we knew it was time to call it a day:

3 Months

Here we are again – at the end of another month! So much has happened in the last few weeks, its almost like we’re living with a new little person! Yes, emphasis on the “person” – Ruby has officially made the transition from “newborn” to full on “baby”! She has quite a little personality shining through … she makes lots of sounds, bats her eyes and smiles at people, “tells us” if she’s bored or tired, and shrieks with glee if she really likes something. She is completely aware of the environment around her, and now does a whole lot more than that newborn baby routine (AKA  eat, sleep, poop – repeat). And, we also have to mention her new found independence … Ruby sleeps happily in her own room now, in her own crib (Much harder on us than it was for her!).

And now for some three month stats …

Not sure about height/weight, but boy has she grown! The general consensus is that she’s a tall little girl … she outgrew her 0-3 month clothes because her toes had reached to the end of most everything, so she’s now in 3-6 months.  If I had to guess, she’s probably 24 in. long now, and at least 13.5 lbs.

Current likes:
Her exersaucer!
“Standing up” (she’s determined …)
Bath time!
Eating toys
Talking to Mommy & Daddy

Current dislikes:
Getting out of the bath tub
Taking naps – there’s just too much going on in this girl’s world apparently!

Notable events:
Sleeping in her crib now!
100 Days Celebration (check it out here if you missed it).
1st trip to the museum
Rolling over from back to tummy

One big change this month was Ruby got a lot more social. She’s been to Stroller Strides (an exercise group for Mommy, where you do a LOT more than just push a stroller!), Baby Yoga, and she just started a class at My Gym in Huntington Beach. It’s a cute class … she does little baby exercises and has free reign over all of the equipment in the space. She didn’t mind at all when we stuck her in the giant ball pit … she just sat in there and looked at us like, “What’s the big deal?”

Also very exciting for Ed & I, Ruby had her 1st trip to the museum! We headed up to LACMA to check out a few current exhibits and introduce Ruby to some of the iconic modern staples.
Here’s Ruby meeting Jeff Koons … (along with Michael … and Bubbles …)

She also got to meet Andy …

Along with a little modern German minimalism for good measure …

And, she also became familiar with the new gallery of Korean Art … a gorgeous collection!

It was a big day, and after taking in all of that culture, she was exhausted!

(See more pics of the museum day here)

And finally, as mentioned … Ruby is really into “eating” her toys. After a month of experimenting, she has tried to stick just about every single finger in her mouth, as well as her entire fist. Now that the fingers/fist are old news … she wants big shiny toys in there now, and she’s not going to accept it if its just not physically possible!

She’s probably going to hate me for this later, but here is our little genius … extremely exacerbated by this darn object. Fun or frustrating? You be the judge.
