Our First Mother’s Day!

It didn’t hit us until a couple weeks before Mother’s Day, but this year marks the first time Mother’s Day applies to Carrie, and not just our moms! Unbelievable! So what to do? Well, a Mother’s Day brunch would be just too predictable and not to mention crowded, so we opted instead to head out to Palos Verdes for a seaside picnic and hike. Given our new little family’s newfound love of the outdoors, it only seemed appropriate.

Our friend had told us about Terranea, a relatively new seaside resort in Palos Verdes set on top of dramatic bluffs overlooking the ocean, and its many stroller-friendly trails. So we hopped in the neat Chevrolet Volt electric car I was testing that weekend and headed out that way.

First things first: lunchtime! We brought all sorts of tasty stuff to eat out there. We found an amazing picnic spot overlooking the ocean. Seriously, the lunchtime view could not have been better.

No alcohol yet for Carrie (we don’t want Ruby getting drunk during her feedings!), so some festive bubbly apple cider filled in for champagne.

After that tasty lunch, it was off to walk the trails. Spectacular views were everywhere, and Ruby – who loves being outside – loved it too!

It’s amazing what we have in our own backyard; it’s all too easy to take it for granted. I mean, this is 25 minutes away from home!

It was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday, especially Carrie’s first Mother’s Day. And as you can see here, little Ruby had a blast too.

1st Mothers Day

5 Months

(Shame on us – we are writing this 5 month recap on the day of her 6 month birthday!)

If we could sum up this month in one word, it would be FUN. Ruby is just cracking us up these days! She is so animated (and so opinionated!) already – it’s amazing. She giggles … she plays … she melts our hearts.

Ruby’s current stats:
We will find out more at her 6 month appointment, but she’s wearing her 3-6 months clothes and size 2 diapers (definitely a step up!)

Current likes:
*BATHTIME!
*Cruising around in her stroller while Mommy & Daddy do their evening run.
*Rolling … and rolling … and rolling!
She rolls in every direction, all across the room (and underneath tables!)
*Singing “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” and “Itsy Bitsy Spider”
*Petting the kitty

Current dislikes:
*Being in the car seat (still)
*Not being paid your full, undivided attention
*Taking afternoon naps

Notable Events:
*Participating in her 1st 5K!
*Visiting the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific
*Sitting up on her own (for a few seconds)
*1st Easter
*Attending birthday parties for her friends Violet, Indy & Justin

Of course, Easter was a big celebration this year. We celebrated with my family the day before and Ruby had a ton of fun with all of her cousins:

She loves her Auntie Shirley & Uncle Eric:

And of course, she was spoiled by Grandma & Papaw and got her very 1st Easter Basket with all kinds of goodies!

On Easter morning, we helped Ruby discover her basket left by the Easter Bunny! Of course, she was way more into the plastic eggs that were inside as opposed to anything else. :)

Did the Easter Bunny leave those Peeps for Ruby … or Mommy?

Daddy shows Ruby the jar of baby food in her basket (someone’s starting solids now!)

The celebrations just kept on coming, as Halmoni came to visit next.
Halmoni can’t resist buying Ruby gifts …

And they’re always pretty dresses!

We feel like huge jerks, but later that day, we ended the holiday by having dinner with Harabuji – and we forgot to bring the camera. :( We will post pics of Ruby with her Harabuji next time, we promise!

And finally, Ruby sure is working on her crawl these days. The video is kinda long, but you can see at about 35 seconds how she’s pulling her knees forward and trying to scoot. If you like cute babies that reach for toys, you will like this video.
