Korean BBQ + Tacos = Kogi!

Tonight we finally made it to Kogi, which is a taco truck that travels around various neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The thing that makes Kogi special is that it is run by 2 young Korean chefs + 1 Hispanic chef, and the tacos are the most yummy fusion of Korean BBQ style meat, ginger and kimchi (!) and your standard taco fare!

The other thing that makes Kogi different from any other taco truck is that you have to do a little homework to track them down! Basically, they Twitter their location, and that’s how you find out where they are and/or where they’re going to be! This is a crappy picture, but here we are on the hunt:

We found them tonight in Venice Beach, on Abbott-Kinney at The Brig. What can we say, chasing them down this way adds that extra bit of satisfaction once you bite into your taco!

Ed had found out about Kogi first, and we have been dying to check ’em out. We were in L.A. tonight for the First Fridays event at the Natural History Museum – The Bird and The Bee played there tonight, and they are one of my most favorite bands as of late! They were awesome. Anyhow, the crew we were with were all game to chase Kogi down! We bought a ton of tacos, and sampled a little of each. We had the Korean Short Rib Taco, the Spicy Pork Taco and the Spicy BBQ Chicken Taco!

Who’s in for another chase?

Happy Birthday, Ella!

Today we celebrated Ella’s 2nd birthday with an EVE Party, from the movie WALL-E. The birthday girl was very charming! Of course, Dad make the cake and he didn’t disappoint. Shirley & Lora even made little candy Eve’s for the cupcakes!

Here we are with the birthday girl …

Palm Springs, here we come!

I am so excited, Ed made the reservations for our annual Palm Springs trip! We are finally getting to stay at The Viceroy! We have eaten many meals, enjoyed many cocktails and have pampered once before at their glorious spa, but we’ve never gotten to be hotel guests! It is gonna be awesome.  I’m counting down the days until February 16th!

Dad’s 70th Birthday!

January 1 of 2009 not only represented a new year, but also Dad’s 70th birthday! We were able to have many of dad’s closest relatives for a great lunch at Peking Gourmet in Garden Grove.

Danny, Janet, and the boys arrived in style – check out Jeffrey and Luke’s snazzy outfits!

Shannon and Mani arrived the day before from their new home in San Rafael, up in Marin County. We’ll have to visit them soon!

Larry and Mary Anne made it too!

Here is part of me and Carrie’s birthday present, a hardbound book that’s a celebration of his long, illustrious, and still-thriving architectural career (he’s currently working on a project in Mongolia!). We are also developing a website for his business which is the other part of our gift to him.

Larry and Mary Anne’s card compiled all of the significant world events from 1939. History buffs will note that MANY important things happened that year, including the start of World War II, Gone with the Wind and the Wizard of Oz hit the silver screens, and most important of all, Paul Ikpoong Kim was born in Korea.

Here’s Shannon saying a few closing remarks about everything that Dad means to us.

And here’s me, Carrie, and dad!

It was a fun day with too much food. Check this picture out … these are the LEFTOVERS!

Happy Birthday Dad, and here’s to a very fresh and prosperous 2009! Click below to see the whole album.
