On the Ice

Ella requested to go Ice Skating this year on her 7th birthday. Everyone in the Facey and Kim families are pretty into the movie Frozen right now, so getting out on the ice like Elsa and Anna do was very exciting. Mommy is too chicken to ice skate with the plate in her arm, but Daddy was more than happy to introduce Ruby to life on skates. She LOVED it, and has already been back to skate again! Who knows, we just may have to get her into some lessons.

Here are just a few fun pics from the day…

Christmas 2013 Highlights

As usual – we had a great Christmas! We feel so fortunate to have wonderful family to celebrate the holidays with. We hosted Christmas Eve at our house for Ed’s side of the family, and we were especially thrilled that Auntie Shannon could join us! It was a cozy evening of good food, great company, cookie decorating, and of course – a few presents. :) We kept things casual this year and went with paper plates! But I still made special place-setting favors like I do every year — it’s tradition!

Love for Halmoni!

Cookie decorating time – everybody got into it!

On Christmas Morning, Grandma + Papaw arrived early to watch Ruby open presents. Looks like Santa made it to our house this year – thank goodness for that key!

She asked Santa for a Sofia the First Doll for 2 months straight, grateful he came through .

Ruby gave a few gifts, too…

After a bit of relaxing, we headed to Grandma + Papaw’s to spend the day. Unfortunately, not too many pics captured there, but lots of memories were made for sure! Dad made his mini sugar fest cakes (!) and Mom made the traditional family favorite, Ribbon Salad. A sweet way to end an epic day!

This is my favorite pic with the best gift of all …

Merry Christmas 2013! More pics here.

Ruby’s 3rd Birthday!

At long last, here are a few pics of Ruby’s birthday celebration last Saturday. We did a small lunch with just the Grandparents at Goofy’s Kitchen, and boy did the grandparents all have a blast watching the birthday girl interact with all the characters. Then we went back to the house for some cake and ice cream, and Uncle Eric, Auntie Shirley, all the cousins, and Grand-Uncle and Auntie Luke & Grace joined us. It was a super fun day!

Elizabeth and Violet stopped by early to kick off the birthday celebration, and surprised Ruby with her very own princess dress. Our little Snow White couldn’t have been happier.

Hi Baloo! (Or is that Briar Bear?)

Ruby’s two birthday cake requests were “Pink” and “Ballerina”. I’m happy to say that I made the birthday girl happy with my creation! More on that (and more pics!) on my Four-Eyed Girlie blog.

Presents! (Yes – you will see Miss Ballerina rocking TWO new ballet outfits!)

Elder Yang (Ed’s Grandma’s best friend) sent this cool Learn-to-Speak-Korean set for ALL of us!

Time with cousins always makes this girl shine!

AND … on Monday, Ruby even got her own special celebration at school!

We just can’t believe that this girl is THREE!

Michigan/Ohio Trip 2013, Days 4-5

Whew, lots to catch up on! We spent a few days in the Columbus area to learn a little more about my mom’s side of the family. We got to check out my mom’s hometown in Lockbourne, have dinner in German Village and spend a little time on the Ohio State University campus!

Lockbourne, OH – The church my mom went to as a kid. My grandpa used to ring the bells here in the morning, too.

Nelsonville, OH – Two cousins meet their Great-Grandfather for the very 1st time.

Columbus, OH – German Village and the legendary Schmidt’s Sausage Haus!

A roadside market and a stormy sky somewhere in route from Columbus back up to Toledo – we found our Amish Trail Bologna and picked up some honey here!

Lots of time in the PriusV!

After our three days in Columbus, it was off to Toledo and time to get ready for both the Rickard reunion and Facey reunion. More to follow!

Easter 2013

Most of the highlights:

Amber had an easter egg dying playdate at her house on Friday. She was awesome to provide a half dozen eggs for each kid. Ruby got into it this year, and was a big fan of using sharpies on her eggs. Thanks, Amber for a great day!

Egg dying with Daddy in the backyard.

Easter morning.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get ANY shots of the HUGE Easter Basket Halmoni brought for Ruby! :( But, we did get this pic of the awesome Godiva Basket she got for us. Score!

Easter dress and hunting for eggs in our backyard.

Grandma made cute place settings for Easter Dinner, and Papaw decorated cute Easter Basket cupcakes with Peeps inside!

Unfortunately, we didn’t get any pics of Ruby’s awesome basket from Grandma + Papaw, either. :( But, we did get a picture of her with all of her cousins.

And, as proof that Ed + I still exist — here’s an Easter Sunday selfie:
