The Last Hurrah

So the last hurrah before Ruby arrives was indeed amazing. Staying at The Parker has been on our list of things to do ever since we first laid eyes on it a couple years ago. Jonathan Adler‘s fun, lighthearted take on the early 1970s is just so…happy. So why hadn’t we stayed there until now? Simply, it was always just a little out of our reach financially. Thanks to the recession and Palm Springs’ off-season (hot, hot desert summer), The Parker was dealing, and we were only too happy to take advantage of it!

Carrie has been a champ through Ruby’s gestation, but even a trooper like her deserves some serious R&R and especially pampering. I treated her to the “Vanilla Sundae”, which was a full three hours in The Parker’s super-fab spa, the Palm Springs Yacht Club (PSYC). Based on how much she was glowing by the end of it, I’d say it did the trick!

Other things we did there? Lots of nothing. And that was the point!

Here’s Norma’s, their awesome breakfast and lunch joint whose decor reminds me a lot of San Diego’s Bazaar del Mundo during the 1970s. Carrie loved her lobster and asparagus omelette.

The world’s most awesome lobby…

Chilling out at one of The Parker’s pools. Being able to order all kinds of tasty things poolside was a real highlight.

Here’s me with one of the super Jonathan Adler tapestries in our room.

Two days of decadent relaxation! We’re so glad we did it.

Drumroll, please!

Yes, it’s a little girl!! A little girl is headed our way! We went to our 20 week ultrasound appointment today, which is mostly for the purpose of making sure that the baby’s growth and development is progressing well and – if you want to know, and we did – if the little one is a boy or a girl. All this time, we had both long said that we would be totally happy with either a boy or a girl, and even now, I maintain that would have been the case.

Still, there had always been a teeny little part of me inside that hoped for a little daughter. So I can’t help being completely giddy and ecstatic over finding out that our baby will indeed be “daddy’s little girl”! I couldn’t be happier!

So now, we move yet another step away from the abstract and towards reality, and it feels incredible. Our little daughter is halfway here, and dad (and of course mom) just can’t wait to welcome her into the world!!

Your dad loves you, kiddo!

Lil’ Rascal!

Things are starting to speed up a little with Baby Kim – after what has seemed like FOREVER, we finally have our appointment for our anatomy scan, AKA “The ultrasound that can reveal if Baby Kim is a boy or a girl!” (Okay wait, first we have to hope that junior cooperates with the ultrasound! Let’s keep our fingers crossed …)

The big day is set for Monday, June 14th at 3:00pm.  Just for fun (and to keep us occupied for two more weeks) … we want to know what YOU think Baby Kim will be!

What do YOU think Baby Kim will be?

Also, I’m pretty darn sure I’ve been feeling the baby move. Yesterday I was lying around reading a book, and I felt a few little taps. They were really faint, so I didn’t think too much about it. But then this afternoon after lunch I started feeling the same thing, but this time a little more often and a little stronger. Maybe the increase in activity means that Baby likes El Pollo Loco as much as I do? :)
