The Glamourous Life at The Viceroy

Each time we’ve been in Palm Springs, we’ve always made it over to The Viceroy for a drink or a bite to eat. However, today was the first time we ever got to visit during the day – as spa patrons!

Ed got a nice massage and Carrie got a facial. Most importantly, we got a hearty dose of fabulousness at one of the most amazing spots here. Spa patrons = Full access to the pools, jacuzzis and grounds … and we took full advantage!

(See those nifty cabanas back there? we’re snagging one of those next time, for sure!)

Day One, part I

It’s tough to try and explain Miami, so we’ll just save that for another entry! All we know is we definitely haven’t ever experienced a city like this before! Everything here is beautiful – whether it’s a poolside view, a person serving you a drink, or a building in general, it’s got style. We are very impressed.

On Day One, we are holding fast to our goal, and that is chillin’. At a place like The Standard, they make it pretty easy! There are places to chill all over the place! We liked the little wicker beds you could lie out on in the green grass:

And the hanging chairs you can relax in:

But our favorite part was just being out at the most gorgeous pool we’ve ever seen!

The pool is awesome! When you look out on it, the line between where the pool stops and the bay begins is nearly impossible to discern. And, you look up above you and there are the hugest clouds all around you, just like this:

It truly is an adult playground.

Of course, this wonderful setting called for a cocktail! We headed on over to the cafe and took a seat bayside to enjoy more of the view:

Pink Chairs!

After the cocktails, we snuck in a little more time by the pool:

And tried to be as cool as everyone else in Miami:

Now we have to go get pretty for a very swanky Dinner at Blue Door – more later on that one for sure!

Destination: Miami

We can hardly believe it, but our 1-year wedding anniversary is approaching! We’ve been long considering where we’ll go to celebrate. We’ve talked a lot about exploring the good ol’ USA a bit before we go international again. Afterall, Ed flies to Korea every month, so he’s over the plane rides. Carrie just started a new job in May, so she hasn’t got much vacation time. And we both agreed that there’s a lot of this country we haven’t seen yet. So, we’re tryin’ to hit up all the major U.S. cities (we consider ourselves city folk – sure, we like the outdoors and all, but after about 2 hours we start gettin’ fidgety). The quandary is that we both have pretty high-octane jobs these days, so we wanna be able to relax on our vacation too. So we came up with a different, yet interesting destination: Miami.

Miami is a pretty major U.S. city – it’s tropical, but it’s got city life to it as well. But the real clincher was that there is a Standard Hotel location there, and that pretty much sealed the deal. We can relax and chill in modernity during the day, and enjoy some delicious cuban food and mojitos at night. There’s a lot of mid-century modern architecture in Miami too…and even a modern museum. Sounds like just the right place for the two of us.

Back to The Standard though…this is what we have to look forward to:

Can you believe that pool? Yep, that would be the ocean right in front!

The rooms and restaurant don’t look so bad either!

Check it out! The Standard

We just booked our tickets this week, and we can’t wait! October can’t come soon enough. You better believe we’ll be journalling all along during our trip! Stay tuned…

We love a great restaurant…

We made plans to finally have a long overdue dinner with Carrie’s best friend, Carrie and her husband, John. She suggested Ketchup, and as soon as we saw the pics, we were IN! Besides the fact that Carrie is a complete ketchup addict, this place was all white and red – and very modern! We couldn’t wait to check this place out. Here are a few pics from their website:

The restaurant didn’t disappoint, although it was quite a scene. Ketchup is located right on the Sunset Strip. Ed kept sayin’ that he half expected the paparazzi to show up because it seemed like some celebrity was bound to appear. No celeb sightings for us though…

The place wasn’t just pretty, either. The food was pretty good. We ordered some fun stuff – the Ketchup Fries, which were basically 3 different types of French Fries with 5 different ketchups. The Fire Fries were Ed’s fave, the Sweet Potato fries were surprisingly Carrie’s fave, and the Parmesan Fries weren’t bad either. We can’t quite remember all 5 ketchup types, but they were pretty delicious. We know there was a classic, a chipotle, a mango and one with ranch. We also ordered mini Kobe beef chili dogs to share between the four of us. The two dogs came out and they were the funniest little miniature dogs we’d ever seen. They were literally “bite-size”. That was fine by us though, as we needed to save room for the main course…seafood plates served with lobster mashed potatoes. The meal was some serious over-indulgence, but it was worth it!

Next, we were off to the L.A. County Museum of Art for a Muse event. Carrie used to work at the museum, so lucky for us, she was able to hook us up with free tickets. (Thanks, Carrie!)

The event was featuring some 60s & 70s SoCal art from their permanent collection, along with some colonial Latin American art. It was okay – we all agreed we’d seen better there, but Ed was excited because one of his favorite bands, Los Abandoned played. They also had art projects that you could make on site. We love those LACMA events!

All in all, we thought it was an excellent night!!!

Viceroy Madness

What happens when you go to one of the swankiest hotels in Palm Springs and you tell people it’s someone’s birthday in a few hours? You get many many martinis and a gaggle of gay men ready to ring in your newest year with you. We were supposed to meet up with some friends of Mary & Lewis’ last night for a few drinks & dinner – before we knew it, we had at least 20 gay men PARTYING with us and we took over then entire back end of the hotel. It was the complete Palm Springs experience! Topics of conversation: The word fabulous, Palm Springs Real Estate, Bravo’s newest TV show – Top Design, Jonathan Adler and the mayor of Signal Hill.

The Viceroy is great. Very Old Hollywood glamorous. All whites and blacks, with yellow accents. Pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield all over. We had a hard time holding the camera and the martinis in our hands, but here’s a few pics:
